Morocco has started building what will become Africa’s largest car tire factory. Work is underway in the Betoya Industrial Acceleration Zone in Driouch province. The project is led by the Chinese group Shandong Yongsheng Rubber through its Moroccan subsidiary Goldensun Tire Morocco. It signifies an investment of 6.7 billion dirhams and covers 52 hectares.
The factory will strengthen Morocco’s position as an automotive hub. It will also support job creation and expand manufacturing capacity across the Oriental region. Officials say the project will reach completion early next year and help increase industrial growth.
Morocco car tire factory to boost production capacity
The new complex will produce around 18 million tires each year once fully operational. It will include a fully integrated manufacturing plant built to international standards. The site will also host research and development units that support innovation and technology transfer.
Its location near the Nador West Med Port gives manufacturers direct access to African and European markets. This positions Morocco to expand exports and strengthen its role in global value chains.
Morocco car tire factory to create new jobs
The plant is expected to create 1,737 direct jobs along with hundreds of indirect opportunities during construction and operation. Regional leaders say the project is a key step toward long term industrial growth. It marks a shift from planning to implementation after the laying of the foundation stone.
Officials added that the project reflects a shared ambition among government and industry partners. They said it will help build industrial sovereignty and attract further investment to the Oriental region.
