Newz.Africa is owned and operated by The Shack Group (Pty) Ltd, a privately held South African company. The organisation oversees the platform’s strategic direction, governance and operational management.
We maintain full editorial independence. Ownership does not influence newsroom decisions, reporting, or story selection. Editorial leadership is responsible for all published content.
Funding
Newz.Africa is funded through a combination of:
1) Google AdWords revenue
We display digital advertising that generates income based on impressions and clicks. Advertisers have no involvement in editorial decisions, coverage angles or newsroom priorities.
2) Social media monetisation
Our revenue includes income earned through eligible social media platforms that offer monetisation tools for publishers and creators. This includes ad‑share programmes and platform‑approved monetised content. Social content performance does not influence editorial judgement.
3) Internal investment by The Shack Group (Pty) Ltd
The parent company provides operational and developmental funding to support technology, staff and long‑term platform growth.
Editorial Independence
Although commercial streams support the platform, editorial decisions are made independently. Our newsroom follows the Newz.Africa Editorial Policy, which protects accuracy, fairness and integrity in all published work.
Paid advertisers, sponsors or partners do not review, approve or influence news content.
Responsible Advertising
Advertising is clearly separated from editorial content. Sponsored features or partner material are labelled so readers can easily distinguish them from independent reporting.
