Purpose
Newz.Africa is committed to accurate, fair and transparent reporting. When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly and clearly so readers can trust our coverage.
What we correct
- Material errors that change the meaning or facts of a story, headline, caption, graphic or social post.
- Omissions or context gaps that could mislead readers.
- Spelling of names, titles and locations, and figures or dates that are wrong.
- Photo, video and data labels that misidentify subjects or sources.
How to request a correction
Readers can report an error by:
- Emailing editor@newz.africa with the story URL, the specific error and any supporting evidence.

We review all requests and aim to respond within 48 hours on working days.
Our review process
- An editor assesses the claim and checks sources, transcripts, documents and datasets.
- The editor consults the reporter and, if needed, external subject experts.
- If an error is confirmed, we correct the content and add a public note. If not, we reply with an explanation.
Correction notes and transparency
- Inline fix: We amend the text and add a Correction or Update note at the foot of the article with the date, time, and what changed.
- Headline changes: We note that the headline was updated and why.
- Social posts: We update or repost with the corrected information and a brief note.
- Significant errors: Where the error is major, we may republish the story and link the previous version for the record.
Example note
Correction (12 January 2026, 14:10 SAST): This article previously stated the vote total as 5,400. The correct figure is 54,000.
Updates vs corrections
- Update: New information that advances the story without changing previous facts. Labelled “Update” with date and context.
- Correction: Fixes an error that affects accuracy. Labelled “Correction” with date, time and detail.
Takedowns
We do not remove accurate content. In rare cases involving legal, safety or privacy risks, we may restrict access after editorial and legal review. We will explain the action taken.
Accountability
The Editor in Chief is responsible for the application of this policy. We review the policy at least annually and log changes at the bottom of the page.
