President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans. He aims to create Ghana’s first cyber and electronic warfare centre. It will be located at the Tamale Air Force Base. He revealed this during the 2025 West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA). He also handed over a new fleet of military vehicles to support operations.

The president said the new centre will strengthen border surveillance and improve Ghana’s ability to respond to emerging security threats. He added that the project is part of a broader plan to modernise the Ghana Armed Forces. It aims to equip them for modern defence challenges.
Cyber and electronic warfare centre to boost Ghana’s defence
Mahama said the centre will run from the Tamale Air Force Base. It will use advanced surveillance tools to patrol Ghana’s borders. He explained that the unit will also have the capacity to respond to attacks or security breaches. Plans include procuring armoured personnel carriers, drones, and upgraded communication systems to support the new centre.
The centre is designed to enhance national defence. It will help Ghana adapt to modern threats. These threats include cyber-attacks and cross-border insecurity.
Vehicle fleet handed over to enhance military readiness
During the same event, President Mahama handed over a fleet of military vehicles to strengthen operational capacity. He said these assets will help improve mobility, logistics and response time for units across the country. This handover marked the commissioning of phase one of a military barracks project. It includes 2,000 units aimed at improving the welfare of service personnel.
The president praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism. He urged them to stay vigilant. New security risks continue to emerge within the region.
