United States President Donald Trump has threatened legal action against comedian Trevor Noah. The threat comes after a sharp joke at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on 1 February 2026. The remarks linked Trump to Jeffrey Epstein and reignited debate online.
Trump threatens to sue Trevor Noah after Grammy monologue

Noah hosted the Grammys for the sixth time. He congratulated Billie Eilish on her win. He quipped that Trump wanted Greenland “almost as much as every artist wants a Grammy.” He then added a line referencing Epstein and former President Bill Clinton. The Recording Academy broadcast the moment live, drawing gasps and laughter from the audience.
Trump responded hours later on his Truth Social platform. He wrote that the “Grammy Awards are the WORST and virtually unwatchable” and denied ever visiting Epstein’s island. “Until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, I have never been accused of being there,” Trump said. He went further, calling Noah a “total loser” and threatening to send lawyers to sue him.
Online reactions to Trump’s legal threat

The exchange quickly spread across social media. Users on X posted memes and commentary within minutes of Trump’s post. One wrote that “Trump threatening to sue a comedian for a joke at the Grammys. It is the most Trump thing ever.” Another noted Noah’s ability to spark outrage with a single line.
Supporters of Trump argued that Noah crossed a line, with one account stating “Defamation is not comedy.” Others defended Noah’s satirical style, pointing out that political humour has long been part of his career.
Noah has not issued a formal response and the Recording Academy has remained silent on the matter.
