Mpumalanga has activated disaster management teams as heavy rains continue to batter the province. Roads, bridges, farms and schools have been hit. Officials say about 500 houses have been damaged.
The Department of Cooperative Governance says the province has recorded 14 deaths linked to the storms. Teams are still assessing the full impact. Early estimates indicate damage running into millions of rand.
Authorities are providing emergency relief. Families are receiving food parcels, tarpaulins and temporary structures. Psychosocial support is being offered to households that lost relatives in the floods.
Schools have also been affected. The provincial government confirmed that 28 schools were damaged. More than 130 mobile classrooms have been procured to keep learning on track. The Public Service Commission is conducting inspections at affected sites.
Disaster officials say mopping‑up operations are underway. A full report will be submitted to national structures for possible intervention.
Communities have been urged to stay cautious. Many roads are flooded and some bridges are unsafe. Officials say people should avoid low‑lying areas and follow weather alerts closely.
