Donald Trump faced criticism after reposting an AI-generated video that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. The clip, shared on Truth Social, drew condemnation from allies and opponents alike. British commentator Piers Morgan called the post “vile” and “racist” and urged the president to delete it immediately.
Piers Morgan condemns Trump’s racist Obama post
Morgan, 60, said on X that he hoped Trump had not realised the video ended with racist imagery. He added that the president should remove the post without delay. According to the Daily Beast, Morgan spoke with Trump earlier in the week but distanced himself after the video surfaced.
Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina described the clip as “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House” and called for its removal. Representative Mike Lawler of New York also condemned the post as “wrong and offensive” and demanded an apology to the Obamas.
White House response to backlash over racist video
Trump deleted the post on Friday morning but has not commented publicly. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the outrage as “fake” and claimed the video was a meme portraying Trump as “King of the Jungle” and Democrats as animals from The Lion King. Critics noted that the film does not feature apes, highlighting the offensive nature of the depiction.
Other politicians were also shown as animals in the clip. Joe Biden appeared as a baboon, Kamala Harris as a tortoise, and Hillary Clinton as a warthog. The Obamas have not responded to requests for comment.
