Eighteen-year-old Rikus Kylander from Krugersdorp has earned five distinctions in his matric results. He is still missing after a snorkeling incident off the Mozambique coast.
Kylander disappeared during a post‑matric trip at Ponta do Ouro in December. He entered the water with a group of friends and never returned. Rescue teams, volunteers and his family searched the coastline for 22 days. Formal search operations ended last Friday after no sightings were found.
Noordheuwel High School confirmed his results on Wednesday. The school described him as a dedicated learner and shared messages of support with his family. Community members in Krugersdorp and Mozambique continue to express hope and solidarity.
This outcome follows a lengthy search effort across sea, land and air. Authorities and volunteers in Mozambique say they remain alert to any new information.
