Kenyan McDuffie has entered the race for mayor of Washington DC. He says the city is at a crossroads. He believes residents want leadership that understands their struggles and can lift people across all wards.
McDuffie says he will defend Home Rule. He says federal overreach harms communities. He wants the city to protect the rights of residents who feel targeted by national politics.
He grew up in Washington DC. He worked as a mail carrier before studying at Howard University. He later became a lawyer and prosecutor. He says his background helps him understand ordinary people and the challenges they face.
McDuffie says he has spent his career fighting for people who cannot fight for themselves. He says he wants to unite the city while also confronting difficult issues.
Safety is a central part of his platform. He recalls periods of heavy violence in the city. He says communication between local police and federal agencies must improve. He says residents should feel safe without facing intrusive policing.
Affordability is another priority. McDuffie says DC is becoming too expensive for many families. He wants to cut red tape for small businesses. He says residents should not be burdened by high fines and rising costs.
He says raising a family in DC should be easier. He wants stronger neighbourhood schools. He says housing costs must come down so that residents across all income levels can remain in the city.
McDuffie says his campaign will share more policy details as he meets voters across the capital.
