Tanzania has achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector. It won several top global titles at the 2025 World Travel Awards. President Samia Suluhu Hassan received the honours at a ceremony held at Tunguu State House in Zanzibar. She said the awards show the country’s long-term focus on conservation, destination management and tourism promotion.
Tanzania was named the World’s Leading Safari Destination 2025, outperforming Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Serengeti National Park won the title of World’s Leading National Park 2025. It beat global competitors including Kruger National Park and Yellowstone.
Regionally, Tanzania earned the title of Africa’s Leading Destination 2025. This was awarded at the Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony in Dar es Salaam. Xinhua reports that these achievements highlight Tanzania’s growing international appeal as a nature-based tourism hub. Tanzania continues to invest in conservation.
Zanzibar also celebrated a separate win after being named Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination in December 2025. Tanzania secured forty-five awards at the Africa level. These awards covered both public and private tourism bodies in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Further recognition went to Serengeti Balloon Safaris. It won World’s Leading Balloon Safari Operator. Thanda Island in Mafia earned the title of World’s Leading Exclusive Private Island. These awards showcase the range and depth of Tanzania’s tourism offerings.
