Africa’s wealth divide has widened sharply after Oxfam reported that Aliko Dangote and three other billionaires now hold more wealth than half of the continent’s population combined. The report, released during the World Economic Forum in Davos, shows billionaire wealth in Africa grew by 36.5 percent in 2025, more than double the global rate. Nigeria was highlighted as a case study, with Dangote Cement paying effective tax rates as low as 2 percent despite profit margins of up to 86 percent. Oxfam warned that weak taxation of the super‑rich is worsening Africa’s debt crisis, where spending on repayments now exceeds investment in schools and hospitals.
